These almshouses were constructed circa 1610 and are located opposite from Tynte's Castle. They were built by the first Earl of Cork, Richard Boyle, for six retired soldiers who are recorded as recieving the princely sum of 5 pounds as a pension per annum. Some were altered in the nineteenth century while they were completely renovated approx 20 years ago.
